Well, those of you who know my mom know that she is sooooo super sweet and would just do anything for anybody!! I realize that other people think they have a really great mom (and they probably do) but truth be told, in my opinion, I have the best mom on the planet!! This is why I decided to treat her to an extra special day . She did not have a clue where we were going or what we were going to be doing. I just told her to be ready by 9:00 a.m. and to wear something comfy and to bring a hat and a rain jacket! For those of you who do not know my mom very well...she does not take well to surprises and she will bug you to death to tell her a secret. So, as you can imagine, she was so frazzled by the time I got to her house to pick her up! First, we started driving towards Athens. She kept asking where we were going and I replied, "Well, mom I told you not to eat any breakfast because we are actually going to be sky diving in an indoor arena." She immediately said, "No, no, now...I am not going to be doing anything of the sort". I busted out laughing because she was scared stiff!! Ha Ha.
All jokes aside, we first went to the salon where our wonderful stylist and friend, Joni, gave mom a new do (courtesy of my sister, Judy, and I). After staying at the hair salon for close to four hours (which was so worth it b/c mom's hair looks fantastic!), it was time for some grub so mom and I decided to hit up Schlotzsky's Deli. It was soooo yummy! Next, we headed to the movies to see Ghosts of Girlfriends Past! Funny story #1: Mom has not been to a movie in probably twenty years! Funny story #2: When we were walking into our theatre mom stopped under the doorway and looked up and read the title aloud, "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past". Then she looked at me and said in a very serious tone, "Rochelle, now you know that I do not like scary movies!" I absolutely about wet my pants and laughed hysterically for at least five minutes or so before I gained my composure. One reason that I love my mom so much is she is so funny and she doesn't mean to be half the time!! After we watched our "scary" movie, mom was tired and ready to go home, but I did not oblige. I still had one more plan to end the day. Our last leg of the trip ended in downtown Athens at the Dan McGill Tennis Complex where the UGA men's and women's tennis teams were playing against SC State in the national tennis tournament. I decided to take my mom to this event because she loves to watch tennis and she had not gotten to watch live tennis ever since the spring of 2008 which was my last semester playing college tennis. We had such a good time just relaxing and enjoying the matches. Unfortunately, we did not get to see any of the women's matches but the men were very entertaining to watch and oh so talented!
So, mom and I spent the entire day together and we had a ball! I just cannot remember the last time we got to do that. Once mom figured we were not going to be doing anything risky, sketchy, or life-altering, she warmed up to the day of surprises ahead of her and we both had a wonderful mother/daughter day!
Thank you mom for being the sweet, selfless person that you are! I love you to pieces! Happy Mother's Day!
