Being silly

Hazel, Becca, and myself ran in the Xterra Fall Fitness 5K Trail Race this past Saturday and it was amazing! The weather was wonderful, the trail was astounding, and the company was inspiring...what more can a girl ask for!?
The race was held at the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center, a facility that I have never heard of or seen before until now. Wow, what we've been missing out on. This place is really neat and very "green" and "earthy" I would say. They have miles and miles of beautiful trails that have all sorts of challenges and technicalities like sand, rock, mud, crossings, and plenty of hills...everything that will challenge the trail runner...these trails have it!
So, we arrived a little before start time but we did not head down to the starting point until right before the race stared...So, we kinda got in the middle of the pack. Due to the fact that I had not been training properly for this race as opposed to previous races, I was very winded after the first ten minutes or so because I had already climbed two hills. Yeah, and the description on the Internet said this trail would be easy to moderate. Yeah, right! It was all but easy and moderate and when I reached the end, Hazel had finished and we discussed how worn out we were and how hard the trail actually was compared to what we thought it would be. When Becca finished she told us that she thought the trail was hard, too. So, I was glad that I wasn't the only one who thought it was difficult. After talking to the girls, I found out that all of us ran the entire race except for the very last hill, which was killer steep and long. In my opinion, that is pretty good...and actually, Hazel got second place in her age division and I got fourth place in my age division out of twelve people. Job well done!
After the race, we freshened up a bit, toured around the Environmental Center, had some brunch, and headed to the Mall of Georgia for some shopping!
A GREAT day!
